Network Installation Engineer


Reports to:

  • LINX Operations Manager

Based in:

  • Post holder will be based in LINX London office but occasional travel to LINX Peterborough office will be required

Responsibilities:

  • Second-line support of new and existing LINX member connections
  • Managing provisioning ticket queue
  • Training Colleagues/sharing knowledge
  • Provisioning of member connections to the exchange
  • Assist MBD department with the induction of new members at the point
     they join LINX
  • Maintenance of facilities (ordering consumables, suite maintenance, etc)
  • Procurement and installation of services and equipment, specifically with
     respect to cabling infrastructure
  • Liaison with cabling contractors and providing feedback to LINX
     Operations Manager about the quality of their work
  • Liaison with co-location sites for on-site operational support
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation regarding LINX member connections is kept
     up to date
  • General housekeeping of cabling infrastructure
  • Support of NOC and Senior Network Engineers as needed, including occasional out of hours maintenance work
  • Awareness of and ability to work to departmental budgets
  • Any other duties required for the overall technical and organisational operation of LINX

 

Skills Required:

  • Previous experience in a similar role maintaining ISP/IXP style
     infrastructure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent admin skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Meticulous, pays attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Good problem solving
  • Basic IP networking experience, switch configuration, etc
  • Basic Unix user skills
  • Mac Literate (including basic use of common Microsoft Office
     applications)
  • Ability to work unsupervised, using your own initiative

  • You will be required to be security screened to BS7858:1996 standard (this process will start at the induction stage)
